The Shard

The Shard, in London, is the tallest building in the UK. It is 310 metres high. It has 95 floors. It was designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano. The builders started work in March 2009. They finished in November 2012.

Different companies have offices in The Shard. There is also a hotel on the 34th to 52nd floors. In the Shangri-La hotel, you can drink cocktails in the bar on level 52. You can also drink tea at the Chinese restaurant on level 35.

There are also three viewing platforms on the 68th, 69th and 72nd floor. It only takes 60 seconds to get to them in a very fast lift. From the viewing platforms, you can use a special telescope to see for 40 miles. You can see other famous buildings in London. You can see St. Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben, Wembley Stadium and Buckingham Palace.
